Basterds Unchained‏

Like many others in the Gamer Basement crew, I have been plagued by the Destiny bug. It’s all that I’ve been playing and I don’t feel like bothering readers with yet another Destiny post.

To combat my Destiny addiction, I’ve resorted to keeping myself busy — which mostly means work, but also watching movies. A bunch of my friends from work have been yelling “Enzo Gorlomi”, “Dominic DeCocco” or, the best one in my opinion “Antonio Margheriti”. In case you don’t know, that’s a reference to the movie Inglourious Basterds.

Why do I mention Inglourious Basterds? Because, it could be an amazing game! While I love Quentin Tarantino’s style in movies, it might not translate well as a game — especially long conversations — but then I remember how Metal Gear Solid 4 was exactly that, and I think it would be cool to see Mr. Tarantino dip his toes in the media.

With the new Silent Hill game involving Guillermo del Toro and Hideo Kojima, I feel that it would only be natural to see more directors involved in helping to make games. I don’t want to bash video games as a whole, but most can’t hold a light to movies in terms of storytelling. They’re allowed to have a less developed story or plot because games aren’t only about story, but also about gameplay.

I guess directors aren’t in it for the money. Just kidding. If Tarantino would make a movie tie-in video game, I bet you he’d make great ones, or at least gain some sort of cult following like Suda 51 has.

Sure, they made a Reservoir Dogs video game, but it was like 10+ years after the movie and Tarantino wasn’t involved, so it was doomed to fail. And what would make “next-gen” games next-gen? Having a different breed of game. Like a hybrid game/movie a la Metal Gear Solid 4. A hybreed.

For now, I can only dream of how awesome a Django Unchained or a Kill Bill video game would be.
